Abner Reed purchased 50 acres of land from Gerard Bancker and Philip Livingston, executors of the estate of Peter Van Brugh Livingston. The land was described as the westerly half of Lot No. 1, a subdivision of Lot No. 21 within Glen's Purchase (a 1739 land patent), located north of Little Falls on the Mohawk River. Abner paid £67.12.11 in specie. The deed was signed and acknowledged on the same day before Judge Michael Myers of the Herkimer County Court of Common Pleas.
Land Purchase 7 Nov 1797 Fairfield, Herkimer County, New York, United States [4] - Abner Read purchased approximately 40 acres of land from John R. Bleecker Jr. of Albany for $1,500. The parcel was located on the north side of the Mohawk River in Glen's Purchase and described as part of Lot 1 of the subdivision of Lot 12. The land lay directly north of Abner's earlier purchase from 1795. The deed was acknowledged before Justice John Lansing Jr. and recorded on 2 February 1798.

Sheriff Sale 22 Jul 1820 Little Falls, Herkimer County, New York, United States [7, 8, 9] - On 22 July 1820, land belonging to Abner Reed was sold at public auction by Robert Shoemaker, then Sheriff of Herkimer County, under a writ of execution issued in a civil case. The judgment against Reed was in favor of Charles E. Dudley for $226.86. The sheriff sold two parcels of land in Glen's Purchase— one of 40 acres in Lot 12, and one of 50 acres (the west half of Lot 1 in Lot 21)— for $150. The sale was held at the tavern of Theophilus Morgan in Little Falls. Reed had insufficient goods and chattels, so his land was seized. The sheriff's deed was issued 23 October 1821 and recorded after the statutory redemption period expired.
On 13 September 1825, Charles E. Dudley conveyed the same 50-acre parcel (the west half of Lot 1 in the subdivision of Lot 21 of Glen's Purchase) to Benjamin P. Churchill, Reuben Churchill, and Henry Churchill of Herkimer County. The deed identifies the land as "formerly in the possession of Abner Reed" and as "the same" conveyed to Dudley on 23 October 1821 by Robert Shoemaker, Sheriff of Herkimer County. The purchase price was $1,028.37. However, the 1825 deed was a mortgage: the Churchills promised to repay the sum in installments with 7% interest, and Dudley retained the right to sell the property if they defaulted. This transaction confirms the identity of the land lost by Abner Reed and illustrates the significant increase in its value after the forced sale. The mortgage was discharged in 1843 by Dudley's widow.
On 13 September 1825, Charles E. Dudley sold approximately 40 acres of land in Great Lot 12 of Glen's Purchase, Fairfield, Herkimer County, New York, to John Nelson. This parcel had previously belonged to Abner Read and had been sold at sheriff's sale in 1820. Nelson agreed to pay $700 in seven annual installments of $100 each, with 7% annual interest, secured by a mortgage. The property was to revert to Dudley in the event of default. On 2 May 1831, Charles E. Dudley formally acknowledged receipt of the full amount of principal and interest owed.

In the boundary description, the parcel is said to be bounded on the west by "lands of Barent & John R. Bleecker in possession of Abner Read."
This reference confirms that Abner Read was still residing on land in Lot 12 in 1827, even though he had lost title to the 40-acre parcel there in a sheriff's sale in 1820. The property had been purchased by Charles E. Dudley and then sold to John Nelson in 1825 under a mortgage agreement. Although Nelson held legal title at the time, the Bleeckers— well-known Albany-based attorneys and land agents— were likely involved as agents or legal representatives of Dudley, who was also based in Albany. Their appearance in the deed likely reflects a legal or administrative interest rather than ownership.
