It is possible they decided to marry in a different location but no record of that marriage has been found. That notwithstanding, family documents say they were divorced. When Helen remarried in 1934 to McFarland, her surname was recorded as West. And when Elmer remarried in 1927 his marital status was divorced. Helen and Elmer likely got married in 1922 and divorced before 1927.
