401 | Came to America at age 4 with his parents. Married and settled on a farm in Butler County, 2 miles south and 1 mile east of Linwood, Nebraska in a sod house. When mice and snakes were crawling down through the sod roof, John used to tell his mother "Let's go back where we had a nice house." Then his father, Peter Kucera, hauled lumber with a team of horses from Fremont and built a 2 room house they were proud of and still stood on the farm as of 1946. It was used in 1946 for repairing harnesses and junk. Mr. Kucera, when farming, had 2 fingers cut off by a corn sheller and, when cutting down trees for wood, had a tree fall on his leg which broke his leg. He still liked to work after he retired and helped thrashing on the farm. At 74, he felt better working than sitting around the house (From 50th anniversary, 1946, as recorded by Mrs. John P. Kucera). | Kucera, John Peter (I104)
