377 | Born on the Hovorka Farm. Gladys did not have a given middle name. While in grade school, she felt bad that others had one and gave herself a middle name, Elaine. Gladys was born at her Mom's sister's Farm. It was common in those years for the doctor to come to the house to help with the birthing. One of Glady's memories is sliding down the cellar dooor and getting slivers in her behind. Her Dad (Dodo to us kids) had to pull them out. (A great story to tell her grandkids.) When Gladys was growing up, her family only talked Czech (aka Bohemian) at home. When she went to school, her teacher would only speak English. Gladys went home crying after her first day. Ever since then, she was determined that her kids would not suffer the same embarrassment. Her kids were only taught English at home and never did get a chance to learn Czech, much to their disappointment, although this way their grandparents could talk to each other without them knowing what they were saying. | Rezac, Gladys Elaine (I81)
